How to Write a Song

Verse 1:
I went day to day
I was alone
When you came my way
Cause of my cologne
We started out OK
But we’ve always known
That we’d go all the way
I would make you my own
I want to say
How much we’ve grown
But I-D-K
How, Except in a song
And I still don’t have a way

Chorus:
So I asked you how to write a song
You told me all need is that special someone
As my inspiration
This was something brand new
To me
I needed you
To be with me
At first you were so damn shocked
But when we sat down and talked
Then you became my girl, my woman
And I learned how to write a song

Verse 2:
We began something, it was a fling
But it was dream-like how quickly we progressed
We dated for four months before I pulled out the ring
You didn’t hesitate in saying yes
Now here we are kissing at our wedding
You are looking beautiful in your white dress
I wanna give you something you’ll be remembering
Something that will make you say I am the best
I need a song for our first dancing
One of my own I wrote, I must insist
One that leaves everybody staring
But I really really don’t have a guess
On how I’m supposed to do such a thing

Chorus:
So I asked you how to write a song
You told me all need is that special someone
As my inspiration
By then I knew I already had you
But still I didn’t have a clue
You’re my princess, you’re wearing the gown
So I didn’t want to let you down
Then I looked into your eyes, and saw you being strong
And I learned how to write a song

Verse 3:
At first I was thrilled you were my baby
But then married life gave us an endless list
Of things to do, I think I am going crazy
Taking our kids to school, pick them up from practice
I just wish I had a day to be lazy
We need our love life back, whatever that is
Then you decided to get us a puppy
Which only made our life all the more anxious
We fought about the kids, about sex, about money
We never had time to ourselves, it was all business
And then one day came and everything seemed funny
We burst out laughing while on our old lumpy mattress
I had to sing you a song, even if it was off-key
About our the hassles of our mid-life crisis

Chorus:
So I asked you how to write a song
You told me all need is that special someone
As my inspiration
We kept growing farther apart
But you were still the biggest piece of my heart
I forgot how much in love we were
We promised for better or for worse
Then I thought how we would get along
And I learned how to write a song

Verse 4:
It’s unreal, we’re dancing at our fiftieth
After it all started with a simple kiss
We’ve spent our whole lives together
We will be in love forever
When we didn’t think we were able
We helped each other through the impossible
By looking back at our first days
And how we stayed together throughout old age
I almost died at your funeral
I didn’t know how to cope with something so painful
And even though now you are gone
You showed me once again,
How to Write a Song
